Engineers of the future are getting the chance to join one of the world’s leading manufacturing facilities as Sony UK Technology Centre (UK TEC) launches its graduate recruitment scheme for the ninth consecutive year.
The scheme is coordinated by the company’s on-site Academy and will enable its participants to gain invaluable work experience within a business that manufactures market-leading Sony Broadcast and Professional Audio & Video products.
Sony UK TEC has developed a world-renowned reputation thanks to its high-end broadcast and professional camera manufacturing operation, along with its contract manufacturing business which has created industry-leading products including the Raspberry Pi.
The Pencoed-based business’ recent National Make UK Manufacturing Awards win for Developing Future Talent recognised its dedication to promoting diversity, developing talent, building skills amongst its employees, and increasing the knowledge of engineering and manufacturing careers within the community.
Graduates applying for the scheme will get the opportunity to advance their skills in a diverse, professional environment, which will enable them to experience all the challenges and rewards of working in a modern manufacturing facility.
As part of their role, graduates will utilise skills including technical, creative, and problem-solving in a bid to revolutionise the facility’s existing manufacturing processes.
Sony UK TEC will be holding an open day where prospective applicants will be able to gain an insight into what the intense 3-year scheme will entail and learn more about the opportunities to develop skills within the business across multiple departments and disciplines. The 2022 Graduate Scheme is inviting applications from talented and ambitious graduates into the areas of Operations Engineering and Parts Quality Assurance.
Following interviews, candidates will take part in a psychometric assessment, a new personality profile tool adopted by UK TEC. The tool will be used throughout the entire recruitment, onboarding, and development journey of each graduate to help tailor the recruitment process to suit each candidate in the short term, and then allow allocation of the right mentor and appropriate training and progressions plans for the successful graduates in the long term.
Professional Services Director at Sony UK TEC, Gerald Kelly, said that the graduate scheme is successful in cultivating more well-rounded and knowledgeable professionals in the long term.
He said: “We are extremely excited to be starting the search for the next generation of engineers and business leaders at UK TEC.
“Our graduate scheme offers a flexible and varied experience developing individuals’ skills at a high-profile manufacturing facility. Through the scheme, graduates get the chance to learn from our team of expert engineers, technicians, and business leaders to get first-hand experience of best practice and develop industry-leading techniques.
“We look forward to receiving applications and welcoming the leaders of the future to Sony UK TEC this year.”
Entry requirement for the graduate scheme is a 2:1 degree in any subject, along with a passion for creating leading manufacturing solutions and the drive to continuously exceed industry standards.
To apply for the scheme, please send a cover letter and CV with the subject “Graduate Opportunity Application” to SonyAcademyWales@Sony.com. Applications close at midnight on 28 February.
